It is interesting and probably not by chance that the author portrayed the heroes like a statue. They are brightly lit by the sun, so the details of faces, clothes are not visible and they seem almost marble. In addition, the author practically placed them on the pedestal, even more hinting at the analogy. Apparently, he wanted to put a monument to all lovers, and to to fulfill the hymn of love with his canvas.
