The author portrayed a girl who is tormented by the eternal female question - "does she love or not?". Her face expresses exhaustion with doubts, fatigue from the unknown - this is indicated by the lowered corners of the mouth, half-closed eyelids and the whole pose. The whole composition is made with dark, saturated and soft colors that reflect the closed nature of the heroine's world, its complete withdrawal into its dreary thoughts and lack of joy, air, freedom from this self-torture.
