Jean-Leon Gerome (1824-1904) Mufti Reading in His Prayer Stool Oil on canvas, 1900 (73.66 x 54.61 cm)( 29 x 21,5 inch ) Private collection Jean-Leon Gerome was a French painter who lived in the 19th century. Mufti Reading in his Prayer Stool is a painting by Gerome, which depicts a Muslim man, dressed in his everyday clothes, reading the Quran while seated on a prayer stool. The painting is known for its intricate detailing and realistic depiction of the man's surroundings, including the patterns on the prayer rug and the marble floor. It is an example of Gerome's fascination with the Orient, which he explored through his travels to Egypt, Turkey, and other Middle Eastern countries. The painting is now part of the collection at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

It is vertical format painting. The artwork is perfect for Orient interior style of home decoration. Jean-Leon Gerome painted man reading some religious book. The work is not appealing. I do not like it.
