Men in portraits of the 17th century are pompous and majestic. They are depicted in a way for to emphasize their status as much as possible, raise them, give importance. For this, different means are used - clothes, wigs, or simply the scale of the figure, as in the painting "Portrait of Anthony Charles de Liedekercke" by Johannes Cornelisz. Verspronck.
