Innocence loss (canvas, oil, 1890-1891), description of a picture

The cloth "Innocence loss" of the postimpressionist Paul Gaugin is written by the artist during finding of new "homeland" in Oceania, - islands of the old dream, - Tahiti.

It is impossible to tell that the cloth completely represents state of mind of the forty-three-year-old author. Viewing causes mixed feelings. On the one hand is an indisputable masterpiece from the point of view of the importance of creativity of Gauguin in world culture, with another – the naive narration, ironic, ridiculous in sense of comical interpretation of conclusions of the inhabitant.

We will sort a picture on components. For a start about technology of the letter.

It is the impressionism but turned by Paul and own opinion on how the impressionism has to look on-gogenovski transformed instinctively. The artist has developed, or rather has got personal technology of execution of multi-color pictures. This work shows lack of separate strokes and a plentiful variety of colors. Each detail, whether it be the hill, the field, a sky smooth surface, the woman, - are generalized in pretty big color spots of pure color.

Gauguin, as usual, works with contrast. As well as demands that impressionism, the artist has registered shadow nuances impurity of violet, avoiding a black pigment. But, unlike classical painting, "Innocence loss" has a number of details with accurate delineation of a silhouette, for example dogs that lies on a shoulder of the girl, borders of hills against the background of the sky, etc. Such outline doesn't contradict technicians of an impressiya.

The color scheme of a picture, despite abundance of red shades, is brought closer to cold temperature. Lack of patches of light and half tones has allocated "Innocence" with plane character. At work there is an improbable naivety, both at display, and at the plot.

We will switch to direct analysis of the narration now. By ancient tradition of Oceania deprivation of innocence represented a ritual ceremony. The best friends of the groom obliged themselves to participate in a sacrament of "the first night" prior to a wedding, directly before the beginning of a ceremony. In other words, the groom was the second after group of the guys called by friends. For commission of this action the darling of the groom was taken away far from the village, and later returned to the promised. Judging by Gauguin's work, the unfortunate ninny was forgotten in the same place where there was a dedication ceremony in future wives.

She, that crowd of friends on a distance shot leaves the left unconscious young lady. The faithful dog protects a faint of the hostess, and the fragile flower in fingers of "victim" hints about the lost yesterday's childhood.

The plot, despite efforts of the author and the stage having the right for life by "wild" traditions according to the contemporary has turned out ridiculous similarity of an illustration from "Crocodile". Actually, and the palette hints at playful mood of the author.
