(Fr. impressionnisme, from the impression - an impression) - art direction in the last third of the 19th - early. 20 centuries., Whose members sought the most natural and unbiased capture the world and everyday life in their mobility and variability, to convey his fleeting impressions. Impressionism. originated in the 1860s.: Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas paintings made in the French freshness and immediacy of observation of life, the image is instantaneous, as it were random events and movements, seemingly unbalanced, fragmented compositions, unexpected points of view, angles, shapes sections . In the 1870-1880's. Impressionism emerged. French landscape: Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley was first developed a consistent system of plein air - working outdoors, they created a sense of blazing sunshine, unlimited wealth colors of nature, the dissolution of volumetric forms in the environment, vibration, light and air.

This contributed to the reform of hues - the decomposition of complex tones in the pure colors of the solar spectrum (imposed on the individual brushstrokes on canvas, and designed for optical mixing them in the eye of the viewer), which gave rise, along with colored shadows and reflections unprecedentedly bright and vibrant paintings. A similar movement to the speed of sight, the transfer of the variability of light and air was done in other countries (James Whistler in England and the United States, Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth in Germany, Joaquin Sorolla in Spain, Konstantin Korovin, Grabar in Russia); interest to the instantaneous movement of Impressionism, embraced a fluid form of sculptors (Auguste Rodin France, Medardo Rosso in Italy, PP Trubetskoy in Russia). Dissemination of the principles of Impressionism. the world was accompanied by a revision of his compositional principles of color, the growth of the devil fragility, instability, and increased perception of the world of decorative composition.
